^^ Caught this Common Octopus (Octopus vulgaris) red-handed… er, red-tentacled

The conch is to an octopus as the cookie jar is to a human. You reach in and rummage around and if you’re lucky, you’ll come up with a tasty snack! We saw several octopus in the day time on this trip, a somewhat unusual occurrence in Cozumel.

Below, a Pikeblenny who I believe is a Yellowface (Chaenopsis limbaughi). This is a very tiny species that lives in a hole in the sand. This one was fully out, which is quite unusual. An inch and a half long, she is about as big around as your phone charging cord.

Also, a species I’ve never seen before: a Lesser Electric Ray, Narcine bancroftii. We spotted him at the very end of the dive when it was just me and the guide left; everyone else had run low on air.
